Outdoor Education: Sealing Boot and Tent Seams in the Field

If your boot or tent seams are leaky, they can lead to a damp outdoor experience. Fortunately, you may have some make-shift sealing material in your backpack. Chapstick, candlewax, Crisco, salad oil or even bacon grease can be used to temporarily improve the water-repellance of your leaky seams.
