Field Events: The "Across the Face" Shot Put Cue

Dick Moss, Editor, PE Update.com

Parry O'Brien, former Olympic shot put champion and world record holder, has a great cue for teaching the correct angle of arm drive in the shot put delivery.

O'Brien uses the cue, “elbow across the face,” to describe the angle of arm and shoulder movement. By driving the inside of the elbow past their face, your students will launch the shot at the optimal angle. It's an easy cue to remember and self-monitor, and it's effective.
