XC Skiing: The Waiter Drill

Jane Kirkpatrick, Contributor

One of the fundamentals of skate skiing is to keep the shoulders level and not dip as you turn the body from ski to ski.

To practice, perform the free skate technique, holding your poles horizontally in front of you. Keep your elbows in and your forearms at a 90 degree angle. Keeping the poles level will ensure level shoulders.
