Gymnastics: Order on the Bench Game

Pat Aitken

Here's a game that will develop your students' balance abilities while encouraging them to work cooperatively.

Organization
Form groups of four to six students, and have them stand in random order on top of a bench. On your signal, have the students arrange themselves in order of either:

  • Their height.
  • Their birthday.
  • The letter that begins their first name.
  • The night onwhich their favorite TV show is aired.
  • Their favorite number.

Besides developing balance and cooperation skills, this is also a great icebreaker since the process of deciding their order on the bench forces group members to learn something about each other.
