Hockey: Pass Off the Boards Drill

Hockey: Pass Off the Boards Drill

Dick Moss, Editor, Physical Education Update.com

The Pass Off the Boards Drill is a basic passing and puckhandling drill you can use in class or with young players.

It teaches students how to use the boards to pass to other players. It also teaches them how to make a move around a defender by passing the puck off the boards and back to themselves as they skate around the opponent.

Setup
Line your players up in one corner of the rink. Place pylons about three feet from the boards, 10 or 15 feet apart, down the length and on both sides of the rink.

Execution
Your players must skate the length of the ice. As they approach each cone, they pass the puck off the boards and back to themselves so it reaches them in a position that is past the cone.

They continue down the ice, around the end-boards and continue back down the opposite side of the rink. Once everyone has finished, repeat, skating in the opposite direction.
