1. Editor's Note

If you're a North American PE teacher, your March break is coming up soon. Have fun and don't get sunburned!!

There's some excellent free content in this issue of Fun Stuff for PE. There's a link to a website that will allow you to download free copies of the beep test; our bi-weekly blog in which I discuss physical education problems in Romania; and our free article from the archives - a badminton tournament you can use with large PE classes.

And for PE Update members, here's what we've added to the website since the last issue of Fun Stuff: a way to make beginning weight trainers feel less conspicuous; a fun tag game; a nutrition game you can use in health class; a way to use long skipping ropes to perform tricks; a resource for downloading the beep test; and an outdoor education activity that teaches students to move without disturbing the natural environment.

While this newsletter is free, most of the content on PE is for members-only, including instructional videos, the discussion group, over 2000 articles that you can read, print and email... and much more.

If you're not already a member of the PE website, then join up today!! You can get more information watch our video tour at: PE Update Video Tour

I hope you enjoy this issue!

2. From the Web - Free Resources

Is the Beep Test (Multistage Fitness Test) part of your physical education curriculum? If so, here's where to download free beep test audio files from the internet. An advantage of such computer audio files is that they don't stretch and become inaccurate like some traditional audio tapes.

3. New Additions to the Website

Here are the Articles that were added to the PE Update website over the past two weeks.
These articles are available to members of PE

  • Games: Four Kings Tag
A tag variation for physical education classes in which four "Kings" expand the size of their team by tagging other students.

  • Nutrition: Mystery Food Game
A nutrition game you can use for an icebreaker or a change of pace in health class.

  • Other Sports: Double Loop Skipping
A long skipping rope can be turned so it forms two small, independent loops that will allow students to perform tricks.

  • Outdoor Education: Cooperative Stalking
An outdoor education activity in which physical education students stalk behind a partner looking for signs of disturbance in the environment.

  • Resources: Free Beep Test Audio Files from the Internet
Where to download free beep test audio files from the internet.

  • Strength Training: Wooden Weight Plates Make it Easier for Beginners
Wooden weight plates can be used when teaching strength training technique to beginners. They put the bar in a better starting position and reduce some of the stigma of using small weights.
