Physical Education Tips of the Week #21
November 29, 2007

1. Editor's Note

We're whipping the new PE Update website into shape and have just reached another milestone in its development. We've finally transferred every pdf article from the PE Digest website to the PE Update site. This took a LOT of time, since each article had to be retitled and transferred individually.

When I moved into my current house (my real house, not the internet version), it was a 15-hour marathon. After the ordeal was over, I swore I would never move again. Well, this moving of pdf's to our new website was a comparable ordeal, although a much more lengthy, process. A pdf weighs a lot less than a sofa, but in my real house, we didn't have 1800 sofas that needed moving.

So that does it, I'm never moving again!! (Yeah, right).

I hope you enjoy this issue of PE Tips of the Week!

2. What's Up With the Websites

Next week, we'll be asking you, our readers, to re-subscribe to this newsletter.

It's actually a way to consolidate all of our email addresses with one email service company (instead of having several lists like we do now). It will MUCH better for us, and also for you - this new company has a tremendous deliverability rate with emails.

We won't be asking you to do this for nothing. You'll receive a free eBook that will save you tons of money and stretch your equipment budget. Called "Sports and PE Equipment You Can Make Yourself," it's 146 pages and is a $12.99 value.

You can get a jump on this process by re-subscribing now. Just go to our home page at www.physicaleducationupdate.com and enter your information in the upper right hand box.

I know it's a pain in the hind quarters, but I sure hope you help us out - I'd hate to lose you as a reader! And if you've already re-subscribed, thanks!

3. From the Web

It's not often that you see something entirely new in sport technique. But this Japanese League pitcher has some stuff I've never seen before. It's worth trying yourself - you'll amaze your students and players with this bit of deception. Check it out at the Daily Motion website:

4. New Article Additions

Here are the articles that have been added to the websites this week:

  • Field Events: Shot Put -- Ideal Release Angle
  • Rugby: Use a Tennis Ball for Better Rugby Passing
  • Swimming: People Often Overestimate Their Ability to Swim

    5. From the PE Update Blog

Combine a television; a sports channel; a game of Rock, Paper Scissors; a $50,000 prize and an editor's jaw dropping to his chest; and you have the topic for this week's PE Update Blog. Check it out at the link below.

    6. Pick of the Week

Each week, I'll highlight an article that I think is really useful. The article will be available to non-members of the website for a week, and to members forever!

This week's pick is: "Strength - The Glute Bridge With an Exercise Ball"

The article describes an exercise that's dynamite for developing the glute muscles and core. The article includes a video featuring personal trainer, Dave Harris, and Tony Scott, a flexibility and massage therapist who has worked with both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays.

These guys really know their stuff and you'll be amazed at the many technique points they illustrate. This is just one example of the many instructional videos you'll be able to access when the PE Update website launches in January.

By the way, you have to click the "Play" button to the start the video.
