Tips of the Week: 2-Column Example
This newsletter serves readers from two sister websites - PE Digest and its soon-to-be sibling, PE Update. Pe Update will launch in January and is the snazzy new version of PE Digest.

It will include instructional videos, a blog, a forum and other really neat features, in addition to hundreds of superbly practical articles on everything to do with sport instruction and physical education.

PE Digest will continue in it's current form, but will mainly serve libraries that require IP address access.

The good news: all subscribers to PE Digest will receive free access to PE Update! And existing subscribers will be the first to get a sneak preview of our new creation (and your new best resource)! When we're ready to roll, we'll let you know!

Tips of the Week Newsletter

from PE Digest.com

& PE Update.com

Editor's Note

It has been a while since we've published, but you'll now be receiving the Tips of the Week Newsletter, well...every week. As I'm sure you'll have notices, our format has improved. And we'll be providing information that should be extremely relevant to practicing PE teachers and coaches.

That will include a listing of our newest article additions, useful free videos and resources from the web, my article pick of the week from the PE Update website, answers to common issues and problems, and the latest postings from the PE Update Blog.

It will be timely fun, interesting and useful. We hope you enjoy it!!

From the Web

Here's a good YouTube video, called NBA TNT Fundamentals, with Carlos Boozer on Post Moves. Hosted by Carlos Boozer of the Utah, Jazz.

A good overview of basketball post play. It will give you an appreciation for what the big boys are doing in the paint. Includes some good  examples of offensive moves. It also illustrates methods to gain position on the low and high post, including the V-cut, swim move, and fake screen.

New Article Additions

You can also use sidebars for 2 to 4 paragraph "mini-features." For example:
  • Case studies and profiles Use sidebars for short "mini-stories" that provide examples and reinforce your white paper's recommendations. These gain impact to the extent your prospects can identify with the problems and the steps taken to overcome them.
  • Interviews. Ask the leading experts in your field for their opinions on topics like the challenges and trends prospects should know about. Their comments will enhance your white paper's credibility.
Issues or Problems

Visuals communicate at a glance, and are more noticeable and easier to remember than words. Options include:

  • Photographs. Whenever possible, add photos of the individuals you're quoting or profiling. Photos add specificity to your white papers.
  • Charts and graphs. Translate comparisons and trends into charts and graphs, which communicate far more effectively.
  • Illustrations. Illustrations, like cycles, make it easy to communicate sequence.

Pick of the Week

Pull-quotes make it easy to add visual interest and reinforce important points.

To create a pull-quote, locate the sentence, or quotation, that best summarizes the most important point covered on the page.

Use pull-quotes for sidebars on pages where lists or visuals are not appropriate.

From the Blog

Well, I'm very new to blogging and we're just getting our blog up and running. Not unlike my nose, which often blogs up in the winter-time is just beginning to run as well.
But, check out this weeks snippet on turning athletes with tailback and quarterback physiques into linebackers.
