Soccer: Scramble Drill for Heads-Up Passing

Dick Moss, Editor

The Scramble Drill will involve your entire class in an activity that develops passing accuracy, field awareness and communication abilities.

Setup and Execution
Give each student a ball, and ask them to dribble randomly within the penalty area of your soccer field (18 yards by 44 yards on a standard field).

On your whistle, each student must pass their ball to any classmate, receive a pass, then continue dribbling until the next whistle. Instruct your students to be aware of eye contact and verbal cues to ensure that each player gets only one pass per whistle.

The confusion that results after every whistle will force your players to keep their heads up in attempting to find open players to pass to.
