The 2010 Winter Olympics will soon be here and it's the ideal time to link your physical education and academic lessons with this mammoth international event.

The Royal Bank of Canada and the Canadian Olympic committee (host of the 2010 Winter Games) have
created a website that will help you to use the Olympics to inspire your students and make lessons more interesting and relevant.

Resources on the Website
The website provides information about the Olympics themselves, and allows your students to track the results and listen to interviews of their favourite athletes.

It provides lesson plans that use the torch relay as a theme (see Torch Relay). There are also some fun interactive online games your students can play (see “Playground”).  And the “New Project Packs” provide you with free downloadable resources with interactive lesson plans, including:

  • “Standing Clean:” Drug use in Sport.Design a media release
  • “Destination Vancouver:” Design a travel brochure
  • “Road to Recovery:” Plan an effective rehab program for injured athletes.
  • Plus several excellent math and finance lessons.

The website can be found at the following URL:     http://www.olympicschool.ca
