Golf/Equipment: Most People Can Use the Same Length Golf Clubs

Pat Aitken for PE Update.com

It's common to see golfers who are either taller or shorter than average assume an unnatural stance to compensate for a club length they assume is the wrong size for them.

However, this is often a false assumption. The fact is, most players' hands are about the same distance off the ground, regardless of their height. Taller people usually have longer arms and vice versa for shorter people.

That's why most beginning golfers do fine with standard-length clubs.  Once they become more serious about the game, very tall golfers might try a club with a more upright lie, and short golfers might prefer clubs that lie flatter.

But don't let your students con you into using their size as an excuse to stray from the fundamentals.
