Less Effective Technique: Squaring Up to the Hitter’s Body and Head
When blocking an opposing hitter, beginners often make the mistake of squaring up to the hitter's body. That is, they position their head in front of the hitter's head. The only problem with this is that ball comes off the hitter's arm, and the arm is a half-foot to the side of the head.

A more effective tactic is for your blockers to shift slightly and position their body in front of the hitter's arm -- this provides the greatest amount of coverage for the block.
