Hockey: Scattered Shooting Drill Develops a Quick Release

Pat Aitken

The Scattered Shooting Hockey Drill will keep both your shooters and goalies sharp.  Its primary goal is to teach your players to set up fast, shoot fast, and shoot without being perfectly set up.

Your players will love it because they get to shoot until their arms fall off—it will give them lots of shooting practice in a very short period of time.

How to Perform
The drill is simple enough. Scatter a number of pucks inside the blueline.  One player must shoot all the pucks as quickly as possible, attempting to get it past the goalie.
You can make the drill competitive by having a time limit and counting the most goals scored.

Other players can be practicing drills in the center ice area as you're running the Scattered Shooting Drill at both ends of the rink.
