Tennis: Keep-Away Teaches Doubles Concepts

Dick Moss, Editor, PE Update.com

Here's a fun way for your players to practice cross-court shots and volleys within a doubles-type game.

How to Play
Play with two students per side, but unlike regular doubles, your players' teammate is on the other side of the net.

The backcourt players on both sides of the net are teammates who try to keep the ball away from the players at the net. They do this by rallying the ball cross-court while the two net players attempt to intercept and volley the ball.

After every four minutes, players rotate one position, until they've played front and back on both sides of the court.

The backcourt players keep track of the consecutive hits they're able to make. The player with the most hits at the end of the game is the winner.
