Lacrosse: An Extended Arm Position Produces Better Shooting Power

Dick Moss, Editor, PE Update.com

Are you students having trouble generating power when they shoot the lacrosse ball? Check the position of their arms.

Arm Position Should be Extended
Observe your players' arm position as they draw their arms back to fire the ball. Arms that are close to the body may be responsible for their lack of power.

In fact, the arms should be held as far back and as high and away from the body as possible.

This increases the length of lever that is being used to apply power to the ball, because extending the arms add to their length. Since the ball is at the end of that lever, the longer it is, the greater the whiplash effect.

Lacrosse: An Extended Arm Position Produces Better Shooting Power
Basic physics dictates that the longer the lever, the faster the end of that lever can move.
