Physical Education Tips of the Week #41
April 17, 2008

Dick Moss, Editor

1. Editor's Note

You'll find some useful information in this week's additions to the PE Update website. There's an article on grocery bagging as a fundraiser, a way to spice up Capture the Flag by adding sneaky spies to each team, and a video demonstration of an icebreaker and team-building activity.

This newsletter also provides links to free information, including an online tool to help you calculate heart-rate training zones; the weekly blog, in which I compare my golfing experience to that of the golfers in the Masters tournament; and an article on how league administrators can address competition blowouts.

This newsletter is free, but most of the content on the website is for members-only, including instructional videos, the discussion group, almost 2000 articles that you can read, print and email... and much more.

If you're not already a member, I highly recommended that you join!! Get more information here:

If you aren't ready to join yet, there's lots of free content on the website and in these newsletters!

I hope you enjoy this issue of PE Tips of the Week!

2. From the Web

FREE TRAINING ZONE CALCULATOR

The Fitness Zone provides an online training zone calculator that can save you time when determining the heart rate zones for different types of training. It uses the common (but sometimes inaccurate) method of subtracting age from 220 - all you have to do is plug in the subject's age and gender and this calculator will tell you heart rate ranges for the Moderate Exercise Zone, the Weight Management Zone, the Fitness Zone and the Peak Performance Zone. The aerobic training zone is essentially a combination of the Weight Management and Fitness Zone.
