More than 300,000 Americans sustain sports or recreation related concussions every year. As a result, every coach should have an action plan for dealing with such head injuries.

The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) has prepared a tool kit that's invaluable for anyone involved with athletes who might sustain concussions.

Concussion Prevention Tool Kit
Called "Heads Up: Concussion in High School Sports," this resource contains practical information on preventing, identifying and managing concussions. The kit communicates this information using a guidebook, a coach's wallet card, a clipboard sticker, reproducible posters, fact sheets for parents and athletes and online videos.

These materials can be downloaded and printed from the CDC website or viewed online. U.S. readers can also order the tool kit and receive them in the mail.
