Gymnastics: Coaching Cue for Better Beam Balance

Pat Aitken for PE Update.com

Here's a coaching cue that will help your gymnasts maintain their balance on the beam.

Tell them to visualize an imaginary zone 4 inches wide, running the width of the beam from floor to ceiling. Your gymnasts can even pretend there's a jet of air blowing within this zone.

If they keep the center of their body within this invisible zone, they'll more easily maintain their balance over the beam.

For example, if they're attempting cartwheels, handsprings, aerials or walkovers, they should practice keeping their center of gravity within this imaginary area.
