Games: Rope-Raising Game Improves Cooperative Spirit

Dick Moss, Editor

Rope Raising is a fun activity that will develop cooperation and improve arm strength in your students.

Setup
You can perform this activity with groups of four or more students. The more participants involved, the more challenging it becomes (but the more rope you require).

The only equipment required is a large rope, tied at the ends to form a circle.

How to Play
Place the rope in a circle on the floor, with your students seated around it, facing in.  On your
signal, they must grasp the rope with both hands and pulling backwards on it, simultaneously attempt to stand up.

Variation
Arrange the rope and your students into two teams facing each other along a straight rope—tug of war style. Starting from a sitting position, they again must pull together so that everyone is able to stand up simultaneously.
