Football: The Stumble Drill for Running Backs

Pat Aitken

The Stumble Drill teaches your running backs to recover when they've lost their balance.

Execution
Give each of your running backs a ball and line them up on the goal line. On your signal, they start running downfield.  Every five yards they reach down with their free hand and touch the yard line, making them stumble.

They must regain their balance, switch the ball to the other hand and keep running, touching down every five yards until they hit the 25-yard line.  They then turn around and repeat until they reach the goal line.

Technique for Regaining Balance
To regain their balance, have your backs lift their head, stick out their chest and drive forward with their knees.
