Outdoor Education: Use a Stone to Tie Down Your Tarp

Kerry MacKelvie

Do you have a tarp with no eyelets on the corners, or eyelets that have torn? Never fear, you can still tie it down for a handy rain shelter over cooking fires, eating areas and group gathering spots.

Simply place a rock about three inches from each corner, fold the tarp around it and tie a knot around the rock. You'll have an extremely strong attachment that will not rip or loosen.

A rock that isn't smooth may cause the tarp to rip. In this case, you can substitute a small handful of dirt for a rock.
