Cross-Country Skiing: Power Machines for Better Skating Technique

Pat Aitken for PE Update.com

The Power Machine drill is a great way to introduce your students to the cross-country skating technique.
To create a Power Machine, simply have one student push a partner from behind.
This forces the pushing students to  use a skating action since they must push out and back to generate force and avoid hitting their partner with their skis.
If you give each team a specific destination, you'll force the pushing student to look around their partner on alternate sides which encourages a solid weight transfer from ski to ski.
